A friend of ours recently wrote a little piece on The Sunshine Factory and wanted somewhere to post it. We offered to post it here as we felt it was very well done. They asked to stay anonymous despite our many plees to allow us to credit them. ;)

The Sunshine Factory is the ultimate epitome of irony. Despite having a band name that sounds perky and sweet-syrupy, the themes of their songs spell out absolute melancholy. Dabbling into the Shoegaze genre gave the Alabama-based group the ability to create lush soundscapes through the utilization of heavily-distorted guitar lines, reverb, and low-fi recorded vocals. Their contemporaries in this genre would be Parisian groups such as: Alcest, M83, and Team Ghost. The latter most mentioned band hails from the city of romance, Paris, where the French thrive in different entertainment hotspots such as the world-renowned Aviation Club de France. This casino offers rounds of poker games just like what Partypoker.fr provides for online gamers, to the delight of many.

Participating in such activity is indeed proven to hone one’s skills in making sound decisions. Players also develop building their social circles as the games progress. Creativity is also encouraged during poker since coming up with unique strategies prove to be very rewarding. Since poker gets more challenging as it progresses, enthusiasts are kept up on their toes making each game more interesting than ever. Furthermore, joining in these card games stimulate one’s thinking cap.

Despite the evident similarity to the mentioned Parisian Shoegaze artists, the band’s sound can also be somewhat compared to that of Sonic Youth, a respected American alternative rock band. Since Sally Robertson, The Sunshine Factory’s co-vocalist/bassist, has a deep yet ethereal voice; its quality is indeed reminiscent of Sonic Youth front woman Kim Gordon in her younger years. Although sounding a bit garbled, the band’s unexpected addition of synthesizers and some 4/4 drum tracks gave more vibrancy to what was supposedly a typical Shoegaze tune that oozes only of a slower tempo.

Helming the other instrumental duties of The Sunshine Factory along with Sally Robertson would be: the musical genius Ian Taylor who is the band’s other vocalist, guitarist, track master, and lead composer. For a time, the band was once comprised of only this duo but before releasing their critically-acclaimed 2nd album Sugar, Robertson and Taylor were then joined by drummer Mathew Hendrich and producer/lyricist Robert Daniel Taylor. The combination of these 4 individually talented musicians spurned out songs that astoundingly transport listeners to an eclectic range of emotions. Tracks such as Down and Smile exudes riffs reminiscent of classic Rock ‘n Roll, while songs like Domino and My Bon Ami (which means “My Good Friend” in French) are perfect for easy listening during lazy Sundays. Delays and distortion on the other hand can be heard most from both the tunes Don’t Fall Asleep and Twisted and Clover.

Sugar is easily one of my top 10 Shoegaze albums from an american band.

The psychedelic-pop debut from Seattle’s Jetman Jet Team flows in and out of brash fuzz, pounding drones and motorik rhythms blending elements of Shoegaze, Krautrock and Noise Pop. We Will Live The Space Age takes one on a journey to spaces both serene and introspective, as well as energetic, crushing and phosphorescent. Punctuated by vignettes of reverberated noise and distant vocals Jetman Jet Team has created a landscape of varied topography and texture requiring exploration from start to finish.
